First Boat Sighting Video from the Coast of Maine

Sunday, May 29, 2011, 11:53 a.m. EST, 69 degrees F

A beautiful day on the coast of Maine—although the first time we went to make the video, at 8:30 a.m., it was so foggy we couldn’t see anything!

We returned a little before noon, and what a difference. It was mid-tide so only part of the sand beach is exposed. Still, people were walking on the beach (only one dog walker can be seen toward the end of the video, but take my word for it there were others right out of view!). And for the first time, you can see a boat in the water speeding through the shot at about the :22 second mark. An exciting hint at the summer fun to come! There was also a lot of car traffic on the bridge, which is a little distracting in the video, but we opted not to turn sound off completely.

This week in the garden, the lilacs are blooming!

  1. The water and your lilacs are both gorgeous!

  2. Jen, The weather is finally warming up and everything is starting to bloom! Lovely! Thanks for visiting today!

  3. Hard to believe it was too foggy to film in the morning. Looks like a great day!

I’m so jealous of your lilacs. I wish I could smell those right now instead of the faint reek from a mug of cocoa I spilled a few weeks ago. (Thought I had mopped up the entire spill but just found the rest on a ledge underneath my footstool. Eww.)

I wish you happy adventures on or near the water this summer! My MEH would be totally jealous. We’re land-locked and don’t own a boat.

  4. Milli, sorry to do this to you, but…the smell of the lilacs is wonderful with hedges on three+ sides of our property! As for boating, your MEH shouldn’t be too jealous, because we may or may not get out on the water (we don’t own a boat right now). I’m sure MEH will find a way because he loves boating, as you know. And we still owe Milliver’s that story about the ferry tours…. coming next month, right?

  6. Christine, You are so welcome! (It will be lovelier to me when I get the weeds under control, which I’m sure you can relate to!)

  7. Beautiful! Your lilacs are stunning! Thanks for Sharing your lovely day with us!

  8. Very welcome! Wish I could send you each a spray of lilacs! (yes there are *that* many, too but will all be gone w/in a few days)

  9. Debra Marrs says:

Beautiful and SO Memorial Day-like. A lovely reminder to stop and slow down for the holiday. Thanks, Julia!

  10. Leah says:

Wow, what a difference a week makes! Beautiful. And those flowers are purple goodness.

  11. Debra, Thanks so much for your visit to my blog and for your comment! You are so welcome for the Memorial Day treat and reminder!

Leah, Yes, once summer starts in Maine, it’s 0 to 100; we have a really short spring! A little unnerving when the temps hit mid-90s yesterday and the day before we had to wear sweaters!
